BUNIONS

Bunions are a bony, often painful hump at the base of the big toe.  Bunions are due primarily to genetic factors, but can become painful over time due to trauma, ill-fitting shoes and poor foot structure. When the bone connected to the big toe starts to grow outward, it pushes the big toe sideways into the other toes which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns and calluses. Bunions are often left untreated, but when they become painful we will first treat them conservatively with padding, anti-inflammatories, physical therapy, injection therapy, wider shoes and custom othotics.

Unfortunately, these conservative treatments provide only temporary relief. Eventually, surgery is the only way to correct the bunion deformity. Our doctors are board certified surgeons and have been performing Bunion surgeries in local hospitals and certified surgery centers for over 25 years. Bunion surgery is usually performed on an out-patient basis and patients get to go home on the same day of the surgery. We encourage our patients to start walking on the operative foot the same day of the surgery.  It is our objective to get you back on your feet as soon possible.

You don't have to live with bunion pain. Schedule an appointment today and let us evaluate your bunion so we can tell you how we will alleviate your bunion pain.

HAMMERTOES

If your toes hurt when wearing shoes or you developed hard painful calluses on the tops of your toes, you may be suffering from a condition called hammertoes. Hammertoes are caused by a contracture of the small joints in the toe which causes friction to these joints when wearing shoes.  When the top of the toe repeatedly rubs against the shoe a corn develops.

Conservative treatment for hammertoes and corns, consists of:

  • wider or opened toed shoes

  • padding and strapping, injection therapy and shaving of the dead skin.

If these conservative measures do not reduce the pain, surgical intervention may be necessary. If you're suffering with painful hammertoes corns and, call our office today or schedule an appointment on-line.
